Hi Dan, I love this blog of yours so much ! As a fellow recreational naturalist I am learning something new every week. I couldn’t seem to find a place for questions and I’m not sure you’ll have an interest in this one, but here goes: I’ve recently been incredibly curious about the orange tint to the water at Nisqually NWR. There is a section off the boardwalk that is rather stagnant and the water appears a rusty orange. The vegetation appears healthy and I’ve seen herons, songbirds and ducks in the water there. Any ideas ? If I knew what to call it I would know how to look it up. I knew immediately who I wanted to ask about it. Can you help ? I posted a couple pictures on my own personal blog for reference.
I just found your website looking up Jumping Mice. 🐁 I am in Chilliwack BC taking photos and sketching (sometimes) creatures and trees that are local. I found a Pacific Jumping mouse by the Hope River. As I document in my diary/journal I come to appreciate that a Dragonfly isn’t just a Dragonfly! But a Cardinal Skimmer. A mouse with an extra long tail and a soft orange brown body is a Pacific Jumping Mouse, not just a mouse. Don’t know where to put my information as of yet but it’s great to meet a fellow enthusiast.
